Panic Bar, also known as an exit device (or fire exit Bar when used on fire doors), is designed to provide fast and easy egress to allow building occupants to exit safely in an emergency.

Code publications define panic Bar as, “a door-latching assembly incorporating a device that releases the latch upon the application of a force in the direction of egress travel.” Panic Bar may also be used because of durability or ease of use, even when it is not required by code.

Crash bar (also known as a panic exit device, panic bar, or push bar) is a type of door opening mechanism which allows users to open a door by pushing a bar.

What is the height of a panic bar?

 

Door handles, pulls, latches, locks and other operating devices shall be installed 34 inches (864 mm) minimum and 48 inches (1219 mm) maximum above the finished floor.

The main purpose of the performance requirements of this standard is to give safe and effective escape through a doorway with minimum effort and without prior knowledge of the device, i.e. for locked doors on escape routes where panic situations can be foreseen.

- External Trim can be operational only with the help of key from the other side of the Door where panic bar is installed & if not required can be kept close.
